Electrolysis
Electrolysis has been a trusted method of permanent hair removal since 1875, and remains one of the only proven solutions for truly permanent results. It works by treating each hair follicle individually, making it effective on all hair colors, skin types, and ages, and safe for virtually any area of the body. At Skin Tight Face and Body, electrolysis offers a precise, reliable solution for long-term hair removal where results are designed to last.
What Is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a clinically proven method of permanent hair removal that has been trusted for over a century. Unlike other hair reduction methods, it targets the hair follicle directly to permanently stop regrowth, making it effective on all hair colors—including light, gray, and fine hair—and suitable for every skin type. At Skin Tight Face and Body, we use electrolysis to deliver precise, lasting results for smooth, hair-free skin anywhere on the body.
Delivering Results
Electrolysis delivers permanent hair removal results by treating each hair at the follicle, preventing future regrowth rather than simply reducing it. Clients see progressively smoother skin over a series of treatments, with hair becoming finer, lighter, and eventually eliminated in treated areas.

-
Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method that treats individual hair follicles. A very fine probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle, where a small amount of electrical energy is applied to disable the follicle’s ability to grow new hair.
-
Yes. Electrolysis is recognized by the FDA as a method of permanent hair removal. Once a hair follicle has been successfully treated, it can no longer produce a new hair. Because individual hairs grow at different times and in different stages, multiple appointments are necessary to treat all of the follicles in an area.
-
Electrolysis can be used to remove unwanted hair from many areas of the face and body, including the upper lip, chin, jawline, neck, eyebrows, underarms, bikini area, abdomen, chest, back, arms, and legs. Its precision also makes electrolysis an excellent option for smaller or more delicate treatment areas.
-
Both treatments can significantly reduce the need for shaving, waxing, and tweezing, but they work differently. Laser hair removal uses light energy to target pigment in multiple hair follicles at once and provides long-term hair reduction. Electrolysis treats individual follicles and provides permanent hair removal. Electrolysis can also treat light-colored hairs that may not respond well to laser treatments.
-
Yes. One of the biggest advantages of electrolysis is that it can treat all skin tones and virtually all hair colors, including blonde, gray, white, and red hair. Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis does not rely on pigment within the hair to target the follicle.
-
Treatment time can vary from 15 minutes to an hour or more, depending on you and your schedule.
-
Most clients comment that electrolysis was not as bad as they had heard or imagined. A pinch, a pin prick, a snap...some fall asleep during their treatment! Adjustments are made to the settings to make it tolerable for each individual.
-
Since many factors influence hair growth, you will need to return for several electrolysis visits. The total number of sessions needed to remove hair permanently from a particular area will vary from person to person. Number of appointments it takes depends on how much hair there is to remove, (The hair you see is not the only hair you have) the texture (fine to very course), hormonal complications. It is recommended you schedule appointments 7 to 10 days apart as needed so hairs can be destroyed in the anagen stage of growth. The unwanted hair will be gone forever once the series of treatments have been completed.
Consistency in your treatments plays a big part in speeding up the process of electrolysis. When electrolysis is performed in the anagen stage of hair growth, more of the treated hair cells are destroyed. When treatment schedules are not kept, there is a chance the hair will grow into its second or third stage. If this happens, then the electrolysis treatment will not be as effective.
-
The expense of treatments might sound like a lot when talking about cost compared to other beauty services such as waxing, tweezing and sugaring. However, electrolysis is permanent. The investment stays with you while other services require indefinite repetition.
-
Absolutely. Electrolysis is especially popular for permanent facial hair removal, including unwanted hair on the chin, upper lip, jawline, neck, and other small areas. Because each follicle is treated individually, electrolysis allows for extremely precise hair removal.
Especially helpful for women that have been diagnosed with PMOS.
-
Shaving or trimming may be recommended between treatments, but tweezing and waxing should generally be avoided because they remove the hair from the follicle. The hair needs to be present and accessible for your electrologist to successfully treat the follicle. Your provider will give you specific instructions based on your treatment plan.
